  • Competence justification: “What came first: Instrumentation or Automation?”

- Instrument Specialists have introduced for Programmable Automatic Controller (PAC) the term of PLC, segregating logic devices from programmable ones, as if programmers can run without logic devices; in fact L for logic is a redundant term, but then PLC would become a PC, and that is the reason for accepting the PLC concept by ignoring its automatic function (it’s logical, isn’t it?); as a quiz for Instrumentists ask about fuzzy logic, suggesting the design idea of a Programmable Analogic Controller (PAC), and  thus the PLC concept would then be justified

- Likewise, a DCS is in fact a process management & control system (PM&CS), because its control function is performed by means of the instruments & I/O modules or SC&DAS connected to a main processing unit (CPU) as server of the PM&CS, so that the DCS is included in the PM&CS as an instrumentation network with specific WAN/ LAN architecture similar to a computer network, but Instrumentists consider microprocessor based units or computers (PCs) as instruments (except the musical ones perhaps), so that PM&CS must stand for DCS; as a quiz for Instrumentists ask about fieldbus, network protocol or architecture, and if LAN or WAN are distributed systems, one more distributed than the other

- Automation discipline integrates Instrumentation, because professional design & maintenance engineering aims to plantweb safety, reliability, productivity & efficiency, not only to instruments or gages hook up on a rig or equipment in order to fulfill plant tasks by means of intricate measurement or control loops, so that, unlike Instrumentation Engineering, Automation ensures steady, accurate & safe sequential cycles in controling, measuring, processing & communicating of process information in terms of operation with technical parameters for automatic systems; as a quiz for Instrumentists ask about safety conditions or interlocking diagrams and setting parameters that should be calculated for P&ID’s or PID algorithms

- Moreover, Automation discipline also integrates Robotics, Mechatronics or Electromechanics, and thus the old concepts of CAM, CIM, CAT, CAL, etc. except CAD, should be replaced by RAM (Robot Aided Manufacturing), RIM (Robot Integrated Manufacturing), RAT (Robot Aided Testing),  RAL (Robot Aided Logistics), RAS (Robot Aided Safety), RAD (Robot Aided Diagnosis) enabling a plantweb to turn into a RAP (Robot Aided Plantweb) according to the modern technological trend; as a quiz for Instrumentists ask about ROV or robotic systems used for manipulating drilling casings or strings in oil operations, and if a robot may be considered as an instrument; well, we might be surprised to find out that robots are sophisticated instruments, so that Instrumentation is able to successfully replace Automation discipline, including Mechatronics

- In fact, not only Instrumentists, but also Electronists deal with Automation responsibilities, including those related to the IT field as part of the Automation discipline; as a quiz for Electronists ask about artificial intelligence, embedded system, smart device or microprocessor based unit and for which type of equipment are these technologies dedicated: electronic or automatic; also check some Romanian employers’ policies in order to find out that they prefer Mathematicians, Economists or Electronists instead of Automatists as IT specialists and why Mr. Bill Gates decided not to complete his professional education in college

So as a joke: “What came first: egg or hen, assuming that the egg is instrument and the hen is automate/ robot?” But this technical point of view is not as serious as the professional mistakes made by the Economists responsible for the financial crisis worldwide; that crack up of finances represents a mistake even more serious than the banking one made at the Societe Generale Group by the French Specialists according to the dictum “errare humanum est, perseverare diabolicum” inspired from clerical principles; such a diseconomy, so-called financial engineering by the incompetent Romanian clerks who experienced it even since 1990 just after the social revolution when the Romanian economic balance was nil, is due to the malpractices and caused the collapse of the Romanian industry; thus, corrupt clerks organized in mafiotic/ masonic structures have been influencing so far the decline of the Romanian economy by controlling the official authorities and the citizens’ access to the labour market and public information; here is a reason of my often career changes listed in my work history and of my current job search, as I intend to escape from the Romanian political demagogy/ mafia and to build my career within professional environments abroad; as a proof, just remember that the last Romanian communist leader remains the only one who got the death penalty on behalf of his own people and compare the quality of the EU regulations and standards to that of the confused Romanian justice/ state legislation amended by the EU officers’ audit at the end of the so-called transition period from the Romanian communist regime to the EU membership

Conclusion: ” To be or not to be… hired? That is my Shakespearian question.“ What’s your professional & straight answer?

COVER/ INTENT LETTER

In my capacity as an engineer with notable professional experience and background, I am generally interested in any field or speciality that calls for development or implementation of modern technologies based on instrumentation or automation systems, and particularly in applications using advanced gauges and instruments or automated systems, including smart devices, such as adaptive or expert ones.

In nowadays circumstances, globalization of the major problems regarding environmental protection and energy crisis imposes a certain concern upon research, design and management departments to assimilate new state-of-the-art technologies or to modify the existent ones, and to find multi-discipline technical solutions for solving in real time complex equations with many restrictions and variables by means of flexible management methods and optimal and overall control of manufacturing process, that is by improving instrumentation or automation equipment characteristics. As a result of such management strategies, even new specialities or disciplines, such as Mechatronics, have been recently created. As a matter of fact, this discipline, which includes Robotics, represents a mixture between Mechanics and Electronics, but it should be considered as part or branch of the vast field of Automation. Hence emerges the outstanding role that the automation field  plays from technical point of view in ensuring a successful production.

At the same time, there is also a concern to meet customers’ requirements regarding  diversification, quantity and quality of products and on this purpose it is necessary to use management modern techniques and efficient economic politics, including financial ones, in order to ensure successful achievement of the production plan, because no production activity is possible today without survey of feasibility or enterprise resources. So any project must include both a technical and an economic study and thus the important role of the economic field in gaining excellent results in production becomes obvious, similar to the role of automation. This kind of studies or audits makes the difference in ensuring a quality solution on time and on budget.

Taking into consideration the impact of the major problems over the actual development stage of world technique and technology, I wish to face this challenge and to bring my own contribution for solving application problems with professional approach by putting into practice all my knowledge. On this purpose I would mention my good adaptability to various working environments, scenarios or situations set or occurred pending tasks accomplishment and my good ability to acquire new speciality knowledge required for fulfilling professional objectives. Eventually, I would agree to undergo a possible tryout evaluating my suitability for any position.

That is why, I have assessed the necessity of my both technical and economic training in the fields respectively mentioned above in order to get a comprehensive overview over the enterprise activity and its scope of work. Thus, I am willing to employ my professional expertise in benefit of your Company assuming it is able to provide real opportunities regarding career development or professional training, and lucrative or rewarding incentives commensurate with working performance and effort. I would also appreciate and promote your possible Company’s high financial and technological potential or ISO certified environment.

I am looking forward to your opinions or remarks and, meanwhile, kindly accept the expression of my politest greetings.

With best regards,

adrian Rauta
